ANDOVER ? It was a tough day Lynn Tech’s football team Saturday as the youthful group struggled on the offensive side of the ball in a 28-8 loss to Greater Lawrence at Andover. “It really is a double-edged sword to have such a young team,” Tech coach Gary Sverker said. “On one hand they’re getting some all-important experience. On the other hand, some may not be ready for it just yet.”The Tigers actually outplayed Greater Lawrence for the majority of the first half. In fact, the Reggies didn’t get a first down until about halfway through the second quarter. Tech would only allow 63 yards of offense. However, the Tigers (3-5) only managed to gain 38 yards of total offense in the first half.?We just couldn’t seem to finish,” Sverker said. . “But we did play hard all the way to the end.”Ryan Murphy had another monster game for Tech. He finished the game with 13 tackles and scored the Tigers’ lone touchdown on a 56-yard fumble recovery. Steven Caisse had fumbled the ball on a speed sweep to the left., but Murphy scooped up the ball and was off to the races. Murphy also made a sensational play in the first half, when he broke up a pass intended for Wadscar Gomez.?He (Murphy) was all over the field,” Reggies’ coach Tony Sarkis said. “He’s a real rugged kid with a nose for the ball.”On their fourth possession of the game, the Reggies were finally able to mount some semblance of an offense. Greater Lawrence meticulously marched down the field, eating up six minutes of clock. The drive culminated when Gomez powered in his first of three touchdowns from two-yards out.Prior to this drive, Gomez had minus-6 yards rushing. He would finish the day with 111 yards on the ground.?Tech was playing great (at the beginning of the game),” said Sarkis, adding when he made some much-needed blocking adjustments, things started to improve for team when. “On the first drive of the third quarter, Greater Lawrence picked up where it left off and marched down the field on eight plays, with Gomez again punching the ball into the end zone. However, the Reggies were aided by a controversial play. It was second-and-10 on the Tigers’ 35-yard line for Greater Lawrence. Quarterback Juan Carlos Gomez passed the ball to Anthony Ocasio. The ball appeared to have been trapped at the 11-yard line, but the back judge ruled it a reception. After a Tech turnover, Angel Rivera delivered the knockout blow when he ran for a 27-yard touchdown on the first play of the drive.Anthony Gallo picked up 1? sacks on the day for the Tigers. Antonio Jimenez picked up the other half of the sack.
