LYNN – A Lynn man didn’t get very far after he allegedly attempted an armed robbery at D & M Variety on Broad Street Wednesday night.Police say James Ingram, 37, of 17 Beach Road #56, flashed a utility knife at the store clerk and demanded money shortly before 7 p.m.The 29-year-old clerk told police he froze for a second because he was in shock. The victim then pushed the panic alarm before Ingram allegedly said, “I’m just kidding. Don’t call the cops.”At that point, a woman walked into the store and spooked Ingram, police said. The suspect ran away on foot without getting any money.Police arrived at the 126 Broad St. store within a minute while other officers canvassed the area looking for a man who fit the suspect’s description.About five minutes after the attempted robbery, police stopped Ingram walking along Silsbee Street near Union Street, according to police.The store clerk positively identified Ingram as the robbery suspect and police say he matched the picture of the suspect caught on surveillance video.Lynn District Court Judge Michael Uhlarik ordered Ingram held on $5,000 cash bail at his arraignment Thursday. Ingram is due back in court Dec. 4 for a pre trial hearing.
