LYNN – A Haverhill man who prosecutors say fraudulently told a Lynn business owner that he was a cop in order to raise money was in court on Thursday.Christen Agnew, 34, of 73 Marshland St., Haverhill, was charged with impersonating a police officer, attempted larceny and driving with a suspended license. On June 23, Lynn police said Agnew attempted to solicit $100 from a Central Street pizza shop by telling the owner he was a Boston police officer doing fundraising for the police department’s youth golf program.Agnew first allegedly telephoned the business looking for a donation. The owner agreed to donate $100 and told Agnew to come into the shop to get the money, police said. However, when Agnew arrived the owner asked to see some identification. Agnew responded by saying he would retrieve it from his car, police said. He allegedly left the business and never came back. The shop owner walked outside and wrote down Agnew’s license plate number as he began to drive away, allowing police to track him down, police said.Agnew was not arrested but was summonsed to court on the charges once police got in contact with him.He was arraigned Thursday in Lynn District Court. Judge Michael Uhlarik ordered him not to drive and set his pre trial hearing date for Dec. 18.
