PEABODY – Senior citizens of Peabody will have the opportunity to take a refresher course in drivers education this afternoon.In conjunction with the state of Massachusetts and the American Association of Retired People, the Peabody Council on Aging will sponsor a senior Driver Training Program today and again on Friday, Nov. 14 from 12-4 p.m. at the Torigian Community Life Center, 79 Central St.The program is designed to tune up drivers so they can continue to drive skillfully and safely on the city’s roadways. It focuses on those age 50 years old and older who may not be aware of changes that occur due to aging.”The AARP Driver Safety course provides an excellent way to evaluate your current driving abilities, learn compensation techniques and how some of the rules of the road have changed, and increase your safety,” said Jayasree Kundu, director of the program.According to Kundu, 95 percent of the program’s graduates say they change their driving behavior.Those who finish the course may be eligible for reduced car insurance rates from their insurance company, if their provider recognizes such courses.The class costs $10 to register, which may be paid for upon arrival.
