One of the two cars broken into is owned by Marblehead football coach Doug Chernovetz. The other car is owned by an assistant football coach. Police reports indicate that a GPS unit and an iPod were stolen from the cars.In the investigation of the alleged underage drinking party, Police Chief Robert Picariello said his department is investigating what happened at a party at 52 Evans Road Monday where alleged underage drinking took place. The Marblehead police log for Monday, Nov. 10 states that officers responded to 52 Evans Road at 9:35 p.m. for possible underage drinking. According to the log, one 16-year-old juvenile was placed in protective custody.”It is my understanding that there were 17 or 18 people at the party,” Picariello said. “I do not know if any of them were on the football team. Obviously I do not know what the kids do in their own time.”Picariello said Marblehead has a bylaw regarding drinking where parents can be held responsible for the actions of their children. He said, “Right now we are looking at who that bylaw would apply to in this case.”Marblehead Athletic Director Mike Plansky told The Item Wednesday night that the names of football players had been mentioned as being present, but declined to say how many, or whether any decisions have been made regarding possible suspensions.Plansky could not be reached for comment Thursday afternoon.According to Marblehead High School’s handbook, “athletes found in the presence of controlled substances will be subject to a hearing by the principal. At that time, punishment will be determined by the hearing committee.”
