LYNN – Boston-bound drivers now have two questions to ask when they head into town: What is the quickest route and what is the cheapest?
For the frugal at heart, taking Route 1A to Route 60 and onto Route 99 into town leaves the driver with 34 minutes and nearly 15 miles to contemplate the joy of not paying tolls.

With the specter of Sumner and Ted Williams Tunnel tolls rising to $7, a driver heading, say, to Top of the Hub in the Prudential Building, must juggle driving time and dollars and cents.
The drive from downtown Lynn to the Prudential through the tunnels takes 28 minutes in optimum traffic conditions, according to Google. But starting next February, the drive could cost North Shore commuters $7, instead of the current $3.50.
Google logs a Boston-bound drive over the Tobin Bridge at 13.6 miles or 29 minutes under the most favorable driving conditions. The Tobin tolls are $3 and, for now at least, not anticipated to increase.
