LYNN – Most Americans know the feeling of torpor that arises on Thanksgiving Day just after dinner, bellies typically bloated by turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, and whatever else was on the table.Knowing this, the Greater Lynn YMCA is offering a series of workouts on the day after the holiday to help residents stay fit and sweat off some of those extra calories.YMCA fitness director Sharon Dobbyn said admission to the Nov. 28 activities is free to non-members. “It’s a community day that we call Turkey Blast and it’s designed to showcase the different classes we have,” she said, noting the workouts include Tae-Bo, Zumba, weight lifting, step, kickboxing, yoga, spinning, and an hour-long bootcamp. “All the classes are a half hour long. It’s really a sampler, an opportunity for people to come in and not only see what we have to offer but to try it themselves.”Reservations are not necessary. The class schedule is as follows: 10-10:30 a.m. Tae-Bo; 10:30-11 a.m. Zumba; 11-11:30 a.m. kickboxing; 11:30 a.m. to noon Step; noon to 12:30 p.m. weight training; 12:30-1 p.m. yoga; 1-1:30 p.m. Zumba with “Jose” the YMCA’s Brazilian instructor; 1:30-2 p.m. bootcamp.”Our Zumba classes have been wildly popular,” said Dobbyn. “At last count we had 60 people signed up.”Two half-hour spinning classes will also be offered as part of the Turkey Blast, starting at 10 and 10:30 a.m.”We’re asking that everyone bring a gift because we’ll be holding a Toys for Tots collection that day. All the toys will be given out to children from needy families in Lynn.”
