SWAMPSCOTT-Power was restored to the businesses on the CVS side of Swampscott’s Vinnin Square Mall at approximately 3:25 p.m. Tuesday after downed branches caused a transformer to blow near Marshall’s Department Store late this morning.Power was restored nearly three hours after the problem started. Most businesses closed while the power was out, but re-opened once the issue has been fixed.National Grid spokeswoman Debbie Drew said 18 buildings in the Vinnin Square area lost power.”It appears that we had multiple tree limbs that took down wires in the vicinity,” Drew said.According to police transmissions, strong wind gusts caused trees and branches to fall all around the town, including near Phillips Park on Humphrey Street and on Glen Road, but the problems near Marshall’s caused the most widespread problem, knocking out power to the shopping complex. The outage affected the odd numbered side of Paradise Road, including Marshall’s, CVS, Panera Bread and Eastern Bank.
