Arrest made in accidental shooting

LYNN – Lynn police have arrested the teenager suspected of accidentally shooting a 16-year-old on Edwards Court last month.
Johnny Lay, 17, of 44 Arlington St., Lynn, was arrested shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say Lay is suspected of shooting 16-year-old Brian Khampharasavath inside his 12 Edwards Court home on Nov. 12.
According to police reports, Lay might have been showing off a gun to Khampharasavath when it went off inside the victim’s living room at about 4:30 p.m. The boy was shot once in the arm.
Police say Lay is a known Crip gang member who has been hiding out since an arrest warrant was issued Nov. 17 on charges of carrying a loaded firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Lay was arrested today at 24 Mall St. In addition to the arrest warrant mentioned, Lay had another arrest warrant previously issued for receiving a stolen motor vehicle and unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
On the early morning of July 14, Lay was shot in the foot in Market Square. Police had zeroed in on possible suspects but no arrests have been made in that case.
