LYNN – After three weeks of hiding under police officers’ noses, a 17-year-old male was arrested Tuesday for accidentally shooting another teen last month.Johnny Lay, 17, of 44 Arlington St., Lynn, was arrested on two outstanding warrants shortly before 3 p.m. at 24 Mall St.Police say Lay is suspected of shooting 16-year-old Brian Khampharasavath inside his 12 Edwards Court home on Nov. 12.According to police reports, Lay might have been showing off a gun to Khampharasavath when it went off inside the victim’s living room at about 4:30 p.m. The boy was shot once in the arm.Police say Lay is a known Crip gang member who has been hiding out since an arrest warrant was issued Nov. 17 in connection with the shooting on charges of carrying a loaded firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.Lay had another arrest warrant previously issued for receiving a stolen motor vehicle and unlicensed operation of a vehicle. He is scheduled for arraignment today in Lynn District Court.A police report of the Nov. 12 incident said the victim was hanging out with Lay and two other teenage boys outside his home shortly before the gunshot was fired. Khampharasavath had told Lay and the others to wait outside his house for a minute, but Lay allegedly followed Khampharasavath into the home. The pair was in the living room when the gun went off. The victim’s grandmother rushed downstairs and found a pool of blood on her living room floor. It’s still unclear where or how Lay allegedly got the gun.Lay is well known to police. On the early morning of July 14, Lay was shot in the foot in Market Square. Police had zeroed in on possible suspects but no arrests have been made in that case.
