REVERE – The murder trial of a Dorchester man accused of gunning down a Revere man in 2007 outside his home has a domestic violence advocate speaking out.Anh Vu Nguyen, 21, went on trial Thursday in Suffolk Superior Court for the March 16, 2007 murder of 20-year-old Tai Nguyen in his Augustus Street home.Prosecutors say Anh Vu Nguyen was furious over his ex-girlfriend’s new romance with Tai Nguyen’s brother, so he allegedly drove to Revere in the snow and fired three shots through the walls of their house. However, it was Tai Nguyen who was watching television with his parents when the bullet pierced through the living room wall, “entering his skull and crushing his brain,” Assistant District Attorney Edward Krippendorf said.Anh Vu Nguyen and several friends allegedly drove to the victim’s home on March 13 and confronted the victim’s brother – the girl’s new boyfriend.Mary R. Lauby of Jane Doe Inc. released a statement about the murder trial Thursday saying that although the case is not a typical domestic violence story, it has the same elements.”Let’s make no mistake about it: The murder of Tai Nguyen was a case of domestic violence homicide,” Lauby said. “The controlling and jealous behavior of the defendant toward his ex-girlfriend is a classic example of domestic violence and was the motivation for this homicide.”The number of domestic violence homicides in Massachusetts tripled from 2005 to 2007. Last year there were 37 fatal domestic violence-related incidents in the state in which 42 people were murdered and 13 of the perpetrators committed suicide.
