LYNN – A 19-year-old Lynn man is facing several motor vehicle violations after he allegedly used Western Avenue as his own speed track in front of police officers Saturday night.
Endy Santiago of 40 Ashland St. was arrested after two officers, who were about to leave an unrelated motor vehicle stop, noticed two cars allegedly racing toward them.
“Their emergency lights were still on,” Lynn police spokesman Lt. William Sharpe said.
Santiago’s vehicle allegedly continued traveling toward the officers at a high rate of speed while the other vehicle darted right onto Cooper Street.
The officers stood in the middle of the road and signaled Santiago to pull over, Sharpe said. Instead, he allegedly crossed over the double yellow line into the wrong travel lane and nearly struck another vehicle, according to police.
Officer John Bernard was able to stop the vehicle on Ida Street, where Santiago was arrested at about 10:30 p.m.
Santiago was charged with reckless operation, motor vehicle street racing, speeding, failing to stop for police, a marked lanes violation and failing to signal.
