LYNN – The City Council tonight is slated to set the new property tax rate for fiscal 2009 when it meets at 8 p.m. at City Hall.The proposed tax increase for businesses is 13 percent and would go into effect July 1.”We believe 13 percent is a high jump in these economic times,” said Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce (LACC) Executive Director Leslie Gould.The fiscal 2008 Lynn property tax rates are $21.45 commercial and $10.98 residential per $1,000 of assessed value. The 2007 rates were $21.26 and $10.40, respectively.Members of the Lynn business community are encouraged to attend the meeting, said JoAnn Power, LACC communications director, noting that the Vienna Boys’ Choir will be performing in the concert center at City Hall during the same time, so those who plan to attend the tax hearing are advised to arrive early to ensure parking.The hearing will be held in the City Council chambers on the fourth floor.
