SALEM – Salem State College has received a $245,000 grant to promote faculty interaction and fund collaborative projects.The grant from the Davis Educational Foundation will be paid out over three years to fund “Transforming Teaching and Learning,” part of the college’s Faculty Learning Communities project, according to college spokeswoman Margo Steiner.The Davis Educational Foundation was established by Stanton and Elisabeth Davis after his retirement as chairman of Shaw’s Supermarkets, Inc. The foundation’s Board of Directors recently conducted a site visit of the Salem campus.The grant is designed to promote faculty interactions while increasing students’ engagement in the learning process. The end goal is increased student success, Steiner said.College President Patricia M. Meservey said the collaborative project is important because it helps the college deepen the scholarship of teaching and learning. The project “will help us move toward achieving our highest goals for student learning, success and persistence,” she said.
