LYNN – A Lynn man’s lead foot got him arrested Wednesday for trying to break into a Highlands convenience store, police said.Greg Umphrey, 21, of 64 Michigan Ave., was arrested and charged with attempted breaking and entering, defacing property, speeding and a marked lanes violation shortly after 11:30 p.m.Police driving to the scene of a breaking-and-entering in progress at Highlands Variety on Adams Street were sidetracked when they noticed Umphrey allegedly driving toward them on Rockaway Street at approximately 50 mph in a 30 mph zone, police said.The car was pulled over and Umphrey was immediately cited for the driving infractions.Upon further investigation, police said they noticed glass shards all over his bandana that he happened to be wearing when he was pulled over.Police later said Umphrey’s physical description matched that of the person who tried to break into the store. The witnesses who called police positively identified him as the suspect.Umphrey told police he wasn’t trying to break into the business, he was just letting off steam because he got into a fight with his girlfriend. He offered to pay for the damages, police said.
