LYNN – Police were still on the prowl Wednesday for a missing Peabody woman who was last heard from Monday telling her daughter, “I’m about to hit some water” on a cell phone call before the line went dead, police officials and sources said.Lynn police released information about the disappearance of Alice Nunes, 58, including her photo to the news media early Tuesday afternoon in hopes that someone has seen her.Nunes’ daughter called Lynn police at about 8:45 p.m. Monday saying she was on the phone with her mother, who said she was driving in Lynn, when Nunes said she was about to go into water when the phone call abruptly ended.In a written statement released Wednesday night, Lynn police spokesman Lt. William Sharpe said the investigation continued throughout the day and included investigators searching bodies of water.”The investigation has included physical checks of areas surrounding bodies of water, canvasses of hospitals [and] hotels,” Sharpe said. “We still ask for the public’s assistance and if anyone has seen Mrs. Nunes or her vehicle to call the Lynn police. Any further information will be given as circumstances allow.”Police traced Nunes’ last known phone call back to a Wyoma Square cell phone tower. Sharpe said this indicates Nunes made the call within a 15-mile radius of the tower.Peabody police said officers have been on the lookout for Nunes in their city as well.Nunes’ family, who congregated at her 397A Lowell St., Peabody home on Wednesday, refused to comment on the situation.Nunes is described as 5-foot-4 with light brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen driving a black 2003 Lexus ES350 with Massachusetts license plate No. 21GX72.”The case does not appear at this time to involve any suspicious circumstances,” Sharpe said. “However, the family indicates that Mrs. Nunes’ absence is unusual.”If you have any information on the disappearance please call Lynn police at 781-595-2000.
