REVERE – Revere police said five cars were damaged at about 7:30 p.m. Monday because of one giant pothole on the Lee Burbank Highway (Route 1A).Police Capt. Michael Murphy said the damages occurred in front of 300 Lee Burbank Hwy. on the southbound side just beyond Revere Beach Parkway (Route 16).Some motorists had their cars towed. Officers shut down part of the road as crews tried to repair the hole on the state-maintained road.”We’re headed into pothole season,” MassHighway spokesman Klark Jessen said Tuesday.Jessen said “rolling crews” filled the pothole in question at about 6 p.m. Monday and again at 2 a.m. Tuesday. He said a more permanent type of asphalt was used to fill the hole later Tuesday morning.”It’s something they’re confronting on a daily basis,” Jessen said.Jessen said the rolling crews have been working overtime around the state to fill large potholes since last week’s two major snowstorms. One problem area recently has been Interstate 93 north of Boston, he said.
