Roundup: Beverly boys track outlasts Marblehead

At Beverly, the Panthers boys track team is not taking any time off during the vacation time for local schools. On Tuesday, Beverly had five individual winners to edge Northeastern Conference rival Marblehead, 48.5-37.5.Winning for Beverly (3-0) were Bobby McPherson, shot put (37-11.5); Randy Jones, 50 (6.0); Dan Modahl, 300 (37.1); Tyler Levy, 600 (1:21.9); and Steven Rouse, 1,000 (2:30.5).Marblehead (2-1) winners were Michael Glabicky, high jump (5-9); Wes York, 50 hurdles (7.8); Ross Peterson, mile (4:59.9); and Tucker Reece, two-mile (10:30.4).GIRLS TRACKBeverly 54, M’head 32At Beverly, the Panthers (3-0) had six individual winners, including Monica Adler in the mile (5:22.6); Katie Tibbets, shot put (29-11.5); Molly Hannigan, 50 (6.7); Helen Amore, 300 (41.7); Wendi Marciano, 600 (1:38.4); and Millie Chapman, 1000 (2:55.8).For Marblehead, Maggie McMullen won the high jump (4-8) and 50 hurdles (8.2), while Alex Gerard won the two-mile (12:51.1).WRESTLINGLfd.-N. Reading 42, Billerica 36Lfd./N. Reading 42, MC 41Lfd./N. Reading 60, Nauset 18At Lynnfield, the co-op team of Pioneers and Hornets recorded three wins. Leading the way were triple winners C.J. Venuto (140), Chris O’Connor (145), and Chris Klove (189).For Lynnfield-North Reading, winning two of their three matches were Trent Taylor (125), Matt Goodwin (152), Matt Curran (160), and Jay Godding (171).SWIMMINGClassical 94, Revere 71At Lynn, the Rams took their first meet behind two individual wins by Peter Rondeau in the 200 IM (2:43.47) and 100 free (1:03.75) and Katie Kidney winning the 50 free (26.91) and 100 back (1:08.38). Also winning for Classical (1-1) were Jeremy Dorson, 200 free (2:28.21); Nancy Orlando, 100 breaststroke (1:39.78); Joey LeBlanc, diving (136.50); and Marissa Maillet, 100 fly (1:36.53).For Revere, Daniella Puerta won in the 500 free (8:29.47).Beverly 102, Peabody 73At Beverly, the Panthers continued to roll. Steve Maruzzi took the only win for the Tanners, in diving (159).BOYS HOCKEYM’head 12, Nashoba Tech 1At the Chelmsford Forum, the Headers (2-2-1) scored four times in the first and never looked back. Anders Gundersen had a hat trick to lead Marblehead while Mike Cohn and Alex Whitmore each scored twice. Colby Bates and Tyler Gelineau had a goal and an assist each.Mike Bernato, Justin Levine and Chris McLeod each had a goal. Jake Kulevich had two assists, along with Jay King. Mike Bernato, Ryan Dempsey, Tyler Decotis and Ellery Smith had one assist each.S’scott 7, Newton South 2At Porazzo Rink, the Big Blue got two goals from Gino Cresta and a goal and three assists from Justin Massey in winning the East Boston Deep Freeze tourney.Jake Donahue, A.J. Zarinsky, Sean Lannon and Colby Wollerscheid each had goals. Zarinsky and Wollerscheid also had one assist.Cath.
