Girls Hoop: Flemming returns, leads Peabody past Danvers

After missing the first seven games of the season, Ginny Flemming made her regular season debut in style for Peabody’s girls basketball team, as she led the Tanners with 10 points to a tight 34-32 win over the vaunted Danvers.”As a coach you know that one kid isn’t going to make that much of difference,” Peabody coach Jane Heil. “She did have 10 points so it was major, but everyone on the team stepped up.”Janelle Rodriguez pulled down seven rebounds and picked up five steals to go along with her three points. Brittany Lefave scored five points and added five rebounds. Kenia McKeon ripped down seven rebounds to go with four points.”It was an exciting game,” said Heil. “We wont let this game get to our head.”The Tanners bettered their record to 3-5. Danvers fell to 7-2.English 39, Saugus 35At Lynn, despite only mustering up one first-quarter point the Bulldogs managed to comeback and win. Jeanette Anderson scored a team-high 16 points.She also pulled down 26 rebounds, which was good for her fifth career 20-plus rebound performance. Kayla Murkison also finished in double figures with 11 points. Olivia Dupree just missed recording a double-double: scoring nine points while pulling down 15 rebounds.Jackie Strangie had a team-high 13 points, while Liz dean also finished in double figures with 11.English was without Jenicia Duggins, who sat out the game with an injury.Swampscott 71, Classical 42At Classical, Tara Nimkar scored a game-high 23 points and added 14 rebounds for the Big Blue (9-0). Allie Beaulieu had 11 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Kara Gillberg also finished in double figures with 17 points.Pierina Mora scored a career-high 19 points, while tearing down six rebounds to lead the Rams (3-6).PMA 35, Tech 12At Presentation of Mary Academy, Methuen, the Tigers got eight points from Jenna Kulakowski.”I see it coming together,” said coach Kevin McDorman. “I can’t wait until we win won. It’s going to happen. They’re athletes learning to be basketball players.”Revere 61, Marblehead 41At Revere, the Patriots won their third game (3-5) thanks to a monster game from Morgan Jenkins, who scored 18 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.Christina Bagnera also played well for Revere, scoring 12 points. Kerri Roche finished with eight.uIn other Northeastern Conference girls basketball action Erica Mendez and Ashley White scored 11 points apiece to lead Salem past Winthrop 48-37. Beverly defeated Gloucester 52-37.
