SAUGUS – Police are investigating if Hooters restaurant served a minor shortly before a car crashed into a utility pole Sunday on Main Street. The case is likely another problem involving a Route 1 restaurant or nightclub that could come before the Board of Selectmen for a show cause hearing. Last Tuesday, Police Chief Domenic DiMella requested a hearing for Jin Entertainment Complex after a New Year’s brawl involving 1,000 people broke out at Orchid nightclub on the complex.According to the police log, officers were dispatched to 56 Main St. about 7:15 p.m. Sunday after a car slid off the road and crashed into a pole. The driver, identified as Leigh Pike, 21, of Lynnfield, told police her 2004 Nissan Maxima was traveling eastbound and was “too far to the right” on the recently-plowed roadway when the car went off the road, the police log said.Police and firefighters reported “major damage” to the vehicle but no injuries. While police questioned Pike and her passenger, Donald Kosova, 18, of Saugus, officers realized Kosova was drunk, according to police. When police asked Kosova where he had been drinking alcohol he answered, “Hooters,” according to police. Kosova allegedly told police his waitress never asked him for identification. After the car was towed from the scene, police brought Kosova back to Hooters and spoke with restaurant managers. The waitress, identified as Ami Pancoli, 23, of Danvers, told officers Kosova provided proper identification before he was served, according to police.”The waitress, Ami Pancoli, stated that Kosova had provided positive identification indicating that he was over the legal age to consume alcohol,” the police log said. “Kosova stated that he was not asked for identification.”A third passenger allegedly ran away from the car accident scene before police arrived. Pike and Kosova said they didn’t know the person’s full identity and only identified him as “Chris,” police said.
