Saugus cops give a hoot about Hooters

SAUGUS – n investigation into whether Hooters served a minor who was later involved in a car crash is ongoing, and Lt. Michael Annese said the department is taking it very seriously.According to police reports, officers responded to an accident scene Jan. 11 that involved a 21-year-old Lynnfield woman and an 18-year-old Saugus man. When questioned by police, passenger Donald Kosova admitted he had been drinking. Officers said Kosova told them a waitress at Hooters had served him without requesting identification. The waitress later denied the accusation and countered that Kosova had in fact provided proper identification.Annese said investigating officer Thomas Coogan has set a meeting with some of the involved parties and their attorneys. While he could not comment on an ongoing investigation, Annese said there seemed to be more to the case then meets the eye.Whether Hooters will be called before the Board of Selectmen for a show cause hearing, like three other clubs in town, remains to be seen.Selectman Stephen Castinetti said he is sure the incident will come up at the board’s next meeting on Jan. 27 but doubts that a decision would be made on a show cause hearing before the investigation is complete.”It sounds to me like its a question of whether or not this guy showed I.D.,” Castinetti said. “I would be surprised if a company like Hooters was not more diligent in that area.”Castinetti said he would be surprised, particularly considering all the publicity that centered on the sports bar when it finally moved onto Route 1.”I want to wait and see what comes out of the investigation,” he said. The board will pick up a continued show cause hearing on Tabu Ultra Lounge and Nightclub Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.Tabu was called in to answer to a string of violent incidents that took place both inside and outside the club over a six month period. Possible action against the club could include license suspension, modification, revocation, or a simple warning. There is also a chance that the club’s hours could be rolled back to include an earlier closing time.
