MARBLEHEAD – The Recreation and Parks Commission is scheduled to meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Marblehead Community Center to interview the three finalists for the $55,000-$73,000 post of superintendent of recreation and parks. The candidates are current Recreation Director Mike Lane, former Recreation and Parks commissioner Todd Norman and Beverly resident Brendan Egan.Lane, a Salem resident, began working for the Park and Recreation Department in 1972. He served as head groundskeeper in the School Department from 1980-1989, assistant program director in the Recreation Department from 1989-1995, Tower School athletic director from 1995-2000 and recreation director from 2000 to the present time. From 1982-2002 he also owned the Marblehead Sports Shop.Since 1995 Norman has owned and operated Todd Norman Landscaping, working on town athletic fields, and he is past president and current board member of Marblehead Youth Baseball. A majority of the commission voted against the offer.Egan is the recreation supervisor in Burlington, overseeing an operating budget of $530,950 and a revolving account of $900,000 for 400 employees and 210 programs. He is the president-elect of the Massachusetts Recreation and Parks Association and has served as youth director in Amesbury and program director for a Boys & Girls Club in Wallingford, Conn.R. Thomas “Tom” Hamond, who has held the post for 32 years, is scheduled to retire March 31 and the commissioners would like to give the new appointee time to work with Hamond before then to ensure a smooth transition.Committee members include Hamond, Town Administrator Tony Sasso, Recreation Parks and Forestry Commission member Sam Ganglani, Finance Committee member Kathleen Leonardson, School Athletic Director Michael Plansky, Director of Public Health Wayne Attridge and Disabilities Commission member Mary Levine.
