MARBLEHEAD – After three years on the School Committee James Dearborn is stepping down.Dearborn announced his departure at the end of Thursday’s meeting, citing his job responsibilities and his family as the reasons for his decision.A former member of the Finance Committee, he ran unopposed in 2006 to take the seat vacated by nine-year member Joan Rosenthal. He was the only committee member up for re-election in May.”I hope people will run,” he said. “We definitely need to have a good debate.”He down-played his service, describing Chairman Amy Drinker and Secretary Patricia Blackmer as “doers” and himself as “one of the talkers” on the committee.”You need to be here to be a good member,” he said as advice to potential candidates.Drinker seemed to disagree with him. Thanking him for his service she said, “It’s good to have people with your background on the School Committee. A job in Boston shouldn’t be seen as a reason not to run.”Town Clerk Robin Michaud is scheduled to make nomination papers available at Abbot Hall for all town elected offices. After three years on the School Committee James Dearborn is stepping down.Dearborn announced his departure at the end of Thursday’s meeting, citing his job responsibilities and his family as the reasons for his decision.A former member of the Finance Committee, he ran unopposed in 2006 to take the seat vacated by nine-year member Joan Rosenthal.
