PEABODY – The current school year is nowhere near over, but elementary school secretaries are already looking to the future with kindergarten registration, which begins as early as next week.The city’s full-day, free, and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) certified program draws quite the crowd of students each year. Over 400 enrolled just last year.To be eligible for enrollment, the child must reach five years of age on or before Sept. 1. When registering a child at their neighborhood school, parents or guardians must have with them the student’s birth certificate and two proofs of residency, which include the guardian’s Massachusetts driver’s license, a copy of a lease or mortgage, and a current utility bill. They must also have with them a completed packet of up to date health records requested by the schools.Registration will be held on the following dates at the following elementary schools:Monday, Feb. 2, Center SchoolTuesday, Feb. 3, Brown SchoolWednesday, Feb. 4, Carroll SchoolFriday, Feb. 6, South SchoolMonday, Feb. 9, McCarthy SchoolTuesday, Feb. 10, Burke SchoolWednesday, Feb. 11, Welch SchoolThursday, Feb. 12, West SchoolParents of students with the last names beginning with the letters A to L should report to their neighborhood elementary school from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Parents of students with last names beginning with the letters M to Z should reporter to their neighborhood elementary school from 12-2 p.m. Children need not attend registration.
