It was déjà vu all over again for the Beverly and Swampscott basketball teams on Tuesday at Swampscott. Last year, the Panthers eked out a one-point win in overtime against the Big Blue.The teams found themselves in overtime again on Tuesday. With the Big Blue holding a one-point lead and time running down, Beverly’s Chris Mooney hit a layup as the clock ran out to give the Panthers a 73-72 win.”It was one of those games where we never put it away,” Beverly coach Scott Lewis said.The Panthers (9-4) led 36-28 at halftime and 48-38 after three before the Big Blue outscored Beverly 22-12 to force overtime.”That was the best effort we’ve had all year,” Swampscott coach Paul Moran said.Nate Knudson led Beverly with 20 points. Mike Clayton had 14 and Justin Marrs had 11.Mike Nimkar had 17 for Swampscott; Craig Rodenstein had 16, Matt Duquette added 13 and Brian Sullivan had 12.English 84, Danvers 54At Danvers, Ryan Woumn and Archie Allen both had 14 points in the undefeated Bulldogs’ 14th straight win. Allen had a strong game on the boards along with Keandre Stanton, who had eight points. Jeremy Subervi had 12 points for English.Fenwick 72, Cathedral 61At Cathedral, the Crusaders (11-1) got revenge on the only team to beat them this season as Mike Clifford’s 28 points and 18 rebounds paced four players in double figures. Phil Eagan had 15 points and 16 rebounds with Nolan DiPanfilo adding 13 and Brett DiPanfilo 11.Tech 76, Shawsheen 25At Tech, the Tigers (11-3, 9-1 Commonwealth Conference) led 15-2 after the first quarter. Josh Cheever led the Tigers with 17 points; Victor Smith added eight. Wardell Barber and Felix Rios had eight points each.Salem 52, Saugus 50At Saugus, Derek McIntyre’s putback with 12 seconds left helped the Witches (11-4) overcome a four-point deficit in the final two minutes.Antonio Reyes finished with 16 points and Bryan Ortiz had 11 for the Witches. Sean Linehan added 10.Saugus (3-8) got 19 from Brian Boyajian and 16 from Bret Reid.BC High 71, St. John’s 56At BC High, Pat Connaughton had 30 points for the Prep (5-6) but it wasn’t enough as the hosts broke open a 34-34 game at the half.Winthrop 60, Peabody 48At Winthrop, Dino Mallios led the Vikings (11-4) with 25 points, as they earned a spot in the tournament. Gavin Mahoney had 10 points and eight assists. Anthony Hatzisavas had eight rebounds and five points.Ryan English was the lone Tanner (4-10) in double figures, with 12 points.Revere 72, Gloucester 57At Gloucester, Trae Weathers finished with a double-double for the Patriots (6-8). He had 27 points and 10 rebounds. Revere had two other players in double figures: Paul Cinelli (17) and Matt Handy (10).
