Swampscott to offer vacation camps

SWAMPSCOTT – The Swampscott Recreation Department will be holding two vacation camps during February vacation.Recreation Director Danielle Strauss said this the first time the camps have been offered during February break.”The Recreation Department has never done this before but the program is modeled after our summer park league programs, which have been very successful,” she said. “The feedback I’ve gotten so far from people is they think it’s a great idea.”The February Vacation Fun Days is for students in grades kindergarten through five and it will be held at Swampscott Middle School Feb. 17-20 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Strauss said the program would be led by Hadley Elementary School gym teacher Jay Knowles. The program will consist of active games in the gymnasium, board games and crafts. The cost for the Fun Days program is $100 per child.The Recreation Department is also sponsoring a basketball camp at Swampscott High School for students in grades five through nine. Strauss said the camp offers individualized and small group instruction. The basketball camp will run Feb. 17-20 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.The fee for the basketball camp is $160 per child or $130 per child if you are registering a team of five or more.Registration forms are available at www.swampscottrec.com. Registration forms and payment should be mailed or delivered to Swampscott Recreation Dept., 22 Monument Ave., Swampscott, MA 01907 by Feb. 12.Additional information is available by calling Strauss at 781-596-8854 or by emailing her at [email protected].
