REVERE – A North Shore Road man who punched his wife in the face then extinguished a lit cigarette on her lip was was arraigned Tuesday in Chelsea District Court and released on $200 bail, the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office said.Abdulkadir Mohamed, 39, of 190 North Shore Road #118, Revere, was arrested Friday about 2 a.m. and charged with domestic assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon (cigarette).Police say Mohamed ended a verbal argument with his wife when he grabbed her arms and struggled with her. He then allegedly lit a cigarette and put it out on her upper lip. After that, he allegedly punched her on the left side of her face, causing her nose and lip to bleed, police said.Officers David Caramanica and William Soto arrived after the victim managed to get away and call 911. The officers noted in a police report that the victim’s face was covered in blood and she had a blister above her lip. Mohamed was arrested when officers found him standing in an apartment building parking garage.”Domestic violence thrives on shame and secrecy,” said Jake Wark, spokesman for District Attorney Dan Conley. “The victim here took a stand against it by calling police, and whether she realizes it or not, she’s making a difference for anyone who’s battered or abused by an intimate partner.”Judge James Wexler ordered the suspect held on $200 bail, to surrender his passport, to not leave the state and to not abuse the victim.A police report said the victim planned to file a restraining order but it’s not clear if she did so.”Domestic violence cuts across every stratum of age, income and ethnicity,” Wark said. “It can affect anyone.”Anyone seeking help with a domestic violence situation can call the Suffolk County District Attorney Office’s Domestic Violence Unit at 617-619-4260. If the situation is an emergency call 911.
