LYNNFIELD – Drama students at Lynnfield’s middle school would like their chance to shine under the spotlight, but unfortunately, it’s going to cost them $80,000.”When our new school was built not too long ago, it was equipped with only enough lights for town meetings (and) band concerts,” said Becky Petrin, an organizer for the town’s Community Schools Drama Program. “There was not enough circuitry nor lighting instruments hung to light any type of theatrical performance.”Purchasing the appropriate materials and the installation work will cost the group far more than they can afford, so to help defray the cost, they’ve decided to participate in the “Got Books?” fundraiser.A drop-off box, provided by “Got Books?” will be located in the school’s parking lot for the collection of new and used books, CDs, DVDs, videos and audio books. Residents, business owners and other members of the general public are encouraged to use the donation center to recycle their unwanted books and raise money for the group at the same time.Once the box is full, employees and volunteers of “Got Books?” will measure the collected items and donate their worth directly to the drama club. The books will later be donated to local teachers in need of classroom materials, shipped to U.S. troops overseas, or sold at discount prices. Half of the profits will be donated to a local charity, while the other half will be used to cover any overhead.Petrin said their fundraising efforts are still going strong and will likely last until the fall. For more information on how to donate, contact the Lynnfield Community Schools office at 781-334-5814.
