SAUGUS – One Saugus police officer tumbled down the stairs and another was lunged at by two drunken brothers who refused to cooperate with orders Wednesday inside a Newhall Avenue apartment building, police said.Scott Sears, 43, of 9 Griswold St., Everett and Darren Sears, 50, of 41 Vernal St., Everett, were arrested on assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges.According to a police report, Officers Anthony Gaieski and Thomas Jones were dispatched to 82 Newhall Ave. #302 for a disturbance from an anonymous caller about 9:35 p.m. Wednesday.Police said four adults, who were all “highly intoxicated” and a child were present, prompting police to notify the Department of Children and Families.Police said the three non-residents became uncooperative when they were asked to leave.Jones was with Scott Sears in the common hallway when Sears allegedly bragged about how much jail time he’d served. When Jones told him to move along, Sears allegedly wound back his arm and tried to punch Jones in the face but missed. Jones returned the punch and arrested Sears after a brief struggle.Police said Darren Sears then came into the hallway and tried to stop his brother from being arrested. That’s when Darren allegedly tried to punch Gaieski in the face but missed. Gaieski said he grabbed Darren in a “bear hug” when the two fell down a flight of stairs.Darren Sears allegedly then grabbed the officer’s glasses and destroyed them and attempted to punch the officer again and kicked him. Gaieski said he used pepper spray to finally handcuff him. While being led to a police car, Darren allegedly spit at Gaieski.Police said Darren Sears was unable to be booked because he was so combative at the police station.A Lynn District Judge ordered both men held on $500 at their arraignments Thursday.
