February 10, 2009 by jamaral

PEABODY – Mayor Michael Bonfanti’s office has officially announced the beginning of one of the city’s most competitive contests – naming the new Bikeway. In effort to get children involved with their community, the contest is open exclusively to students in the eighth grade. To participate, students must type a three-paragraph essay no more than one page in length explaining why their name would be best. According to the contest’s guidelines, the name must be historically significant to Peabody and fall under one of the following categories: human rights, culture, industry, nature, or the military. The name can not, however, be named after a contemporary local person or family. When writing their essay, students must be sure to place their suggested name at the top of the page in a large, bold, underlined font.Entries must be received by the mayor’s office no later than Friday, April 3. Bike helmets will be awarded to the top name in each cluster. The winner will receive a grand prize in May.
