LYNN – A local man was arrested Monday night after he allegedly broke into a Cannon Rock Road home and terrified the residents inside before fighting with officers, police said.James Davella, 25, of 57 Vine St., Saugus, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering at night to commit a felony, two counts of malicious destruction of property, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and possession of a knife over 2.5 inches.At about 10:15 p.m., a female resident of 44 Cannon Rock Road walked upstairs from the basement when she heard Davella attempting to kick down her front door, police said. When he was unsuccessful he broke a glass window next to the door with his arm then reached inside and unlocked the front door, according to police.He was wearing a t-shirt but no jacket, police said.As Davella allegedly tried to enter the home, a male resident appeared and Davella tried to run away, police said.A third resident, also a male, was returning home when he noticed Davella running away from the house, according to police. The two male residents followed the suspect as he ran down the street and into a backyard at 99 Den Quarry Road, which is where police intervened.When asked what he was doing, Davella allegedly said, “Enjoying the view.” He allegedly refused to cooperate with officers and actively resisted arrest.At the police station, officers said Davella ripped a sprinkler head from the jail cell ceiling, causing the room to fill with water around 3 a.m. Tuesday. He was charged with another count of malicious destruction.Davella was arraigned Tuesday in Lynn District Court where Judge Albert Conlon ordered him held on $500 cash bail. He’s due back in court March 26 for a pre-trial hearing.
