SWAMPSCOTT – It wasn’t a match made in heaven, it was a heavenly match made in Town Hall.Former town clerk Russ Patten and Swampscott native Jayne Madigan, who is the sister of Police Chief Ronald Madigan, met for the first time in Town Hall in 2007 and the couple plans on getting married there on Saturday, April 25.”We still have a strong connection to Swampscott,” he said. “We decided to have the wedding ceremony at the Town Hall close to where Jayne grew up and where we met two years ago.”Jayne Madigan said several of her siblings live in town and she works in Swampscott.”I grew up in the neighborhood near Town Hall,” Madigan said. “I first met Russ in Town Hall so we decided it would be a good place to get married.”She said the couple would probably get married on the staircase in Town Hall but she said they have also looked at a couple of rooms with large fireplaces.Patten said his future wife was in Town Hall conducting some business in the town clerk’s office when the two met.”After waiting on Jayne and answering her questions I mentioned to (Town Accountant) Dave Castellarin that Jayne was in and that she was cute.”Castellarin readily admits calling the chief and telling him that Patten thought his sister was cute.”I didn’t think she’d come back and ask him out to lunch and it would end up like this,” he said. “I’m happy to play Cupid for them and I’m very happy for them.”Patten said the chief told his sister the two should meet for lunch and after receiving some encouragement from friends and family, his future bride invited him to lunch.Patten, who is a native of Quincy, said their first date was at Stephanie’s on Newbury Street and from then on began a very happy relationship. In the course of their relationship they have enjoyed traveling and are happy taking their dogs for walks and visiting with friends.Patten served as town clerk in town from March 2005 through October 2007. He is a graduate of Suffolk University and Suffolk Law School. He is employed in the Canadian Sales Division of MEDITECH.Madigan, who is the youngest of eight children, grew up on Elmwood Road just a block from where she will be tying the knot. She is the daughter of the late Ronald and Maureen Madigan. She is the head esthetician at Elizabeth Grady in Vinnin Square.The couple purchased a home in Marblehead where they reside with their two dogs Lily and Chloe.”Lily and Chloe will be at the ceremony even if they cannot be legal witnesses,” Patten said.The civil ceremony will be performed by Chief Ronald Madigan, who expects to receive a one-day solemnization authorized by Gov. Deval Patrick.Patten said the couple is planning on having a reception at Red Rock Bistro prior to their honeymoon to Spain, the Canary Islands and Morocco.
