NEC, CAL announce hockey all-stars

Revere’s Chris Mastropietro and Swampscott’s Justin Massey were named as MVPs of the Northeastern Conference North and South Divisions as the league announced its hockey all-stars on Monday.Mastropietro also won the award last season, sharing it with Peabody’s Elijah Cohen. The senior went over the 100-point mark this season and has recorded hat tricks in his last three games while ranking fourth in conference scoring (20-18-38).Massey, a senior, led the NEC South in scoring during the season with 29 points (12-17) as the Big Blue repeated as league champions. Swampscott coach Gino Faia was named the NEC South Coach of the Year while Winthrop’s Dale Dunbar earned the honor for the North after taking the Vikings from worst to first this season.Mastropietro will be joined by teammates Jay Sasso (31 points) and Nick DiMare in Saturday night’s (8) all-star game against the Cape Ann League at Burbank Arena in Reading. Peabody also had three players named to the team in Andrew Bucci (46 points), Elijah Cohen (45 points) and Matt Rodgers (44 points), who finished as the top three scorers in the NEC.Jake Donahue and goaltender Tyler Gallagher were also named along with Massey from Swampscott while Winthrop goalie Pat Feeley headed the Vikings’ selections along with Ricky Boudrow and George Costa.Lynn will have two players on the ice Saturday as defensemen Sean Crowley and Dave Stevens were selected to the team.The complete team is as follows:Forward: Bucci; Cohen; Rodgers; Sasso; Costa; Josh Salah (Gloucester); Matt Fraser, Joe Vecchione (Saugus); Tyler Albano (Beverly); Kyle Larson (Danvers) and Mike Day (Salem).Defense: Mastropietro; Donahue; Boudrow; Paul Russo (G’Ster); Crowley; Stevens; Mike Cohn and Anders Gundersen (Marblehead).Goalie: DiMare; Feeley; Gallagher.The Cape Ann League also announced its all-star team on Monday with North Andover senior Ryan Sifferlin earning league MVP honors and Wilmington’s Steve Sweeney garnering Coach of the Year accolades.Sifferlin currently leads the CAL in scoring with 25 goals and 46 points, which also ties him for first in Division 2 North with Peabody’s Bucci. He was joined on the all-CAL team by forwards Kevin Holmes and Collin Cusack (Newburyport); John Lee (Lynnfield, 31 points) and Andy Roach (Masconomet); and defensemen Matt Calos (No. Reading); Dan Cushing (Wilmington) and Keaton Cashin (Masco).
