NEWBURYPORT – Without much fanfare, the Revere hockey team quietly came into Monday’s Fournier Division semifinal at the 14th annual Newburyport Bank Ice Hockey Classic against Triton sporting a 13-2-3 record. Well, the Patriots didn’t do much to hurt their tournament chances at Graf Rink.Chris Mastropietro recorded his third straight hat trick and Sean Dean added a goal and three assists as the Patriots rolled to a 5-2 win over the Vikings to reach Thursday’s final (7) against either Matignon or Haverhill.”Chris, in the last couple of weeks, has seemed to find the fire that he needs to be successful,” Revere coach Jim Palumbo said. “He’s a force, no doubt.”The two-time NEC North MVP provided all the offense the first period saw when he intercepted a Triton clearing pass and snapped a quick shot past Mike Kaminski at 2:15 to stake the Patriots to a 1-0 lead.Goaltender Nick DiMare made sure that lead stood up in the second period as he came up with several spectacular saves on Viking stars Craig White and Keegan Howes early in the second period.”Nicky stood on his head there,” Palumbo said. “He really was key for us.”After surviving a Triton 5-on-3 late in the period, Mastropietro and Dean helped deliver a knockout blow. Mastropietro made it 2-0 with 2:11 left in the second when he scored on a Dean rebound and then completed his hat trick with 8.2 seconds left by scoring on a nifty backhander.Dean increased the lead to 4-0 early in the third, assisted by Nick Adreani and Anthony Noel, before Matt Vasquez’ goal at 7:10 closed the Revere scoring. Craig White and Brandon Middleton scored late in the third for the Vikings. In a Gulazian Division semi earlier in the day, Saugus got a pair of goals from freshman Saige Tait and two assists by Matt Fraser but it wasn’t enough as Pentucket bested the Sachems in a shootout to win 4-3 and move to Wednesday’s final against Shawsheen.Saugus (7-10-2) struck first at 6:58 when Tait scored on a power play, assisted by Joe Vecchione and Tyler Calla. But the hosts rallied three minutes later as Anthony Pagliarulo scored off a Bob DiSorbo assist.DiSorbo gave Pentucket a 2-1 lead midway through the second, assisted by John Gavin. But Tait struck again at 12:06, assisted by Fraser, to tie the game at 2-2 heading to the third.Pentucket once again stuck its nose in front as DiSorbo scored a power play goal at 9:12 assisted by Pagliarulo. But Anthony Cucuzza tied the game at 13:15, assisted again by Fraser, for Saugus.
