Woman assaulted at Peabody market

PEABODY-A man was arrested Sunday moments after he allegedly followed an unknown woman to her car outside the Howley Street Stop & Shop and assaulted her, police said.Marildo Antonio Ferreira, 39, of 68 Cabot St. #5, Beverly, was arrested and charged with assault and battery, unlicensed operation of a vehicle, unsafe operation of a vehicle and speeding shortly after 12 p.m.Police say a Peabody woman exited the supermarket around noon after being followed by a man through the store. She began walking to her car when the man allegedly asked if she needed assistance and she declined.As she continued to walk to her car the suspect allegedly grabbed her by the coat and told her to “Get back.” The victim managed to get away and into her car, police said.The victim called police and gave a description of the suspect. According to the police log, Ferreira was stopped by police on Walnut Street and positively identified by the victim.
