Peabody already preparing for fall elections; multiple seats available on several boards

PEABODY – Nomination papers for the upcoming municipal elections are currently available in the city clerk’s office in City Hall. Candidates have until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 31 to take out papers.Applications complete with the 50 required and certified signatures must be filed with the Board of Registrars no later than Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 5 p.m. in order to be placed on the election ballot. Candidates then have until Aug. 13 to withdraw.All 11 seats of the City Council are up for reelection, as are three seats of the Peabody School Committee. Beverley Ann Griffin Dunne, Mike Moutsoulas and Ed Nizwantowski all face possible re-election to a four-year term. City Councilors and Mayor Michael Bonfanti each face a two-year term.The following Library Trustees are up for re-election to a six-year term: Margaret Tierney, Rosemary O’Brien, Christopher Burbridge and Darryl Ann McCarthy. Light Commissioners Thomas Paras and Robert Wheatley are also up for a six-year extension.Residents will have until Wednesday, Aug. 26 to register to vote in this year’s preliminary election, which takes place on Tuesday, Sept. 15. They will have until Wednesday, Oct. 14 to register for the general election, which follows on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
