Lynn Volunteer Yacht Club offers 8-week boating skills course

LYNN-The Volunteer Yacht Club will offer an 8-week Boating Skills & Seamanship course starting March 24.Hosted by U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 49 in Lynn, the course will be held at the yacht club, 68 Lynnway, on Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. The cost is $55 and includes all necessary materials.To register, contact Maura Leason at [email protected] or call (781) 593-1211 or (617) 285-1409.At the end of the course, students will received a certificate of completion, according to David Leason, the flotilla’s public affairs officer. Many insurance companies offer discounts on boat insurance following completion of this course, he said.A second, optional course will be offered after the first is concluded. It will focus on basic navigation skills and chart reading. Classes for the latter course will meet for three weeks.”If boaters are using the inland rivers and lakes of New Hampshire, they must now have a boating safety certificate,” Leason said.
