SAUGUS – A three-car accident at Global Gas Station shut down Lincoln Avenue briefly Tuesday and sent three women to the hospital.Fire Chief James Blanchard said none of the injuries were life-threatening and the Jaws of Life were not needed, despite the spectacular appearance of the wreck. The accident occurred at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Sunnyside Park. Police Lt. Michael Annese said police officers were still trying to piece together exactly how the accident happened, but the result was one car being shoved up underneath a pickup truck that was parked at the pump at the gas station.”It drove one car right under the pick-up,” Blanchard said. “The good news is the guy in the gas station did all the right stuff.”Blanchard said when accidents happen at gas stations, workers should immediately turn off the pumps and shut down the electricity, which workers at Global did.”That doesn’t always happen,” he said. “It must have scared the daylights out of him but he had the peace of mind to hit the buttons.”Firefighters/Emergency Medical Technicians stabilized the three women before they were transported to the hospital and Blanchard said a fourth party refused treatment.Capt. Stephen Johnson handled the scene from the firefighter’s end.Annese said police were still investigating the cause and no charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.
