Marblehead boating safety course to begin

MARBLEHEAD – The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a six-session boating safety course at Marblehead High School starting April 7.The course, entitled “About Boating Safety,” is for beginners and designed to impart the knowledge required to obtain a boating safety certificate.”It may even allow you to get a discount on your boating insurance,” said Gary Cordette, public affairs officer for Marblehead Flotilla FL43.A Massachusetts youth boating certificate is offered at no additional charge. The course topics include boating laws, safety equipment, navigation rules and boating problems. The course meets in the school’s second-floor lecture hall on Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m.Registration will be held on the evening of the first class at 6:30 p.m. The course fee is $30, which includes the required textbook.According to Cordette, the course will be taught by certified instructors from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, which is a civilian, public service organization.For more information, call 781-599-7444 or go online to http://a0130403.uscgaux.info/.
