LYNN – A Lynn man was ordered held on $2,500 cash bail at his arraignment Thursday after he allegedly assaulted police officers following a domestic assault on Essex Street.Hakim Nelson, 27, of 201 Essex St. #403, Lynn, was arrested and charged with domestic assault and battery, malicious destruction of property over $250, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday.According to a police report, officers responded to 201 Essex St. at about 5:45 p.m. on a report that a man, later identified as Nelson, was allegedly trashing his girlfriend’s apartment after an assault.The girlfriend told police Nelson had punched her in the face during an argument and left the apartment, according to police. Nelson allegedly came back a short time later and began breaking items in the apartment, including a bathroom fan. The victim went into the apartment building hallway and called police, police said.Once police arrived Nelson had left the building but was seen a few minutes later on Johnson’s Terrace.Police found Nelson inside a building and he agreed to speak with them outside. However, once police informed him he would be under arrest for, at a minimum, breaking the bathroom fan, Nelson allegedly flew into a rage.Nelson punched Officer Gary Hagerty in the chest as police tried to handcuff him, police said. Nelson then allegedly spit in the direction of a group of officers multiple times before being placed into a police car.Judge Stacey Fortes-White set the bail and ordered Nelson back to court April 9 for a pre-trial hearing.
