School super earns No. 1 paycheck in Marblehead

MARBLEHEAD – In 2008, Marblehead’s top 14 wage-earners earned more than $100,000, a significant increase from last year when there were 10 in that group.The 13 men and one woman on this short list included four school administrators, four high-ranking police officers, two electric light department managers, the fire chief, the director of public works and the town’s chief financial officer.Click Here for the complete list – MarbleheadIn what app-ears to be a police department trend, Pol-ice Lts. Jonathan Lunt and Matt-hew Freeman earned more than Police Chief Robert Picariello, a department head who does not receive overtime or police detail assignments. Lunt and Freeman received $29,173 and $16,759 in overtime and police detail payments respectively, boosting their salaries, as did most of the other police officers on the list and some of the fire department and electric light department personnel.The top 60 wage-earners earned more than $80,000 last year.In this expanded group there were 24 school administrators, 15 police officers, 10 electric light department managers, six town administrative officers and five fire department officers. Thirteen members of this group were women.Last year this list contained 23 school administrators, 15 police officers, 11 electric light department managers, seven town administrative officers and four fire department officers.The 2006 list included 29 school administrators, 15 police officers, eight electric light department managers, six town administrative officers and two fire department officers.Dropping the cut-off point to $70,000 expands the list to 159 top-paid employees.This group includes 101 school employees, 21 police officers, 15 electric light department managers, 13 town administrative officers and nine fire department officers.Seventy-two members of this group are women.There were 78 teachers on the long list but only four among the top 60. There were 11 police patrolmen on the list, seven of them among the top 60, with the help of overtime and paid detail income.Last year there were three teachers and six police patrolmen in the top 60.
