REVERE – A second man has been arrested in connection with a March 3 shooting inside a Malden Street home, according to Revere police and the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office.Eric Rumson, 29, of 7 Alpine Ave., Everett, was arrested Wednesday and is accused of providing the gun used in the assault and fleeing the scene when he knew police were being called.Rumson was charged with armed assault with intent to murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.Police identified Steven Speranza, 29, of 272 Malden St., Revere, as the man who fired one gunshot into the ceiling during the incident. He was arrested March 4 on the same charges as Rumson and is currently being held on $100,000 cash bail, according to Jake Wark, spokesman for District Attorney Dan Conley.Rumson was arraigned Thursday in Chelsea District Court where Judge James Lamothe ordered him held on $1,500 cash bail, which a clerk said was posted by the afternoon. Prosecutors requested $50,000 bail, Wark said.Police reports indicate detectives charged Rumson as being a joint venture in the crime, even though he wasn’t the person who actually fired the gun.At about 11:45 p.m. on March 3, police say Speranza’s girlfriend got upset with several roommates at their 272 Malden St. home when she noticed $500 cash was missing. She accused the roommates of stealing the money. After sharing her anger with Speranza, he allegedly waved a hammer at the roommates in a threatening manner while accusing them of stealing the money, police said.Minutes later, he allegedly called Rumson on the phone and asked him to come over to fight the roommates. Police say Speranza was well aware that Rumson carried a gun.Rumson arrived and allegedly gave the gun to Speranza who began threatening the roommates with it. Several roommates began physically struggling with Speranza because they thought he was going to shoot them, police said.During the struggle, with Speranza’s hand on the gun, the weapon was pointed into the air and a single round was fired into the ceiling.According to a police report, one of the roommates managed to hold onto the upper receiver of the firearm preventing Speranza from shooting it. Speranza allegedly clicked the trigger several times but the gun didn’t fire.”That is the reason why (the roommate) was not shot while Speranza was turning the firearm into (the roommate’s) body while pulling the trigger,” a police report said. The suspects are due back in court March 26.
