LYNN – Lynn police say not one, but two people were arrested twice within one day this past weekend in two separate incidents. The first case involves a teenager trying to fit in with a street gang, while the second case involves a man who had a dispute with his mother stemming from apparent substance abuse.Police first arrested Devin Sheehan-Powers, 19, of 102 Pearl St. #3, Charlestown, at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday and again 12 hours later. Both of his arrests involve fights with perceived rival gang members, police said.Sheehan-Powers, who police say was wearing all blue clothing with a blue bandanna and a tear drop tattoo under his left eye, was allegedly in a group that punched a rival gang member in the face on Union Street at about 11:30 a.m.The victim refused to cooperate. However, an anonymous witness gave police a description of the suspect, allowing police to track down Sheehan-Powers walking along Lewis Street. He was found in possession of a knife over 2.5 inches and charged with violating the city’s knife ordinance.Sheehan-Powers was arrested again 12 hours later for assault and battery after another fight involving a perceived gang member.Police say he was inside a car that pulled up to a group of three men at the corner of Warren and Vine streets asking if they had any marijuana. When the group said “no,” Sheehan-Powers allegedly exited the vehicle holding a jack handle, said, “You’re Bloods! Ha!” and struck an 18-year-old in the side of the head with it, according to a police report.Sheehan-Powers was arrested moments later after the car in which he was a passenger was pulled over. The driver of the vehicle was identified in a police report as Vincent Valenti, 21, of 16 Fearless Ave., Lynn. Valenti was not arrested but is currently awaiting trial after being indicted in December in Salem Superior Court on drug trafficking and weapons charges after police raided his home in September. In a separate incident, a woman in her 20s was shot in front of Valenti’s home on March 6.Police identified Sheehan-Powers in a report as “an active gang member.”The second case occurred at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday when Jason Lejeune, 27, of 80 Flint St., Lynn was arrested after his mother told police she wanted him out of the house due to his excessive drinking and drug use.Because Lejeune was in possession of two knives over 2.5 inches, which violates the city’s knife ordinance, he was placed under arrest. While he was in custody his mother was granted an emergency restraining order against her son because she said she was afraid of him being in her house while under the influence.Within minutes of his release Lejeune allegedly called his mother and left three voicemail messages, which police say is a clear violation of the restraining order. Police arrested him for violating the order at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, marking his second arrest within three hours.Police additionally charged Lejeune with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for allegedly taking his mother’s car earlier in the evening after she repeatedly told him not to use it.Both suspects were arraigned Monday in front of Judge Ellen Flatley at Lynn District Court. Sheehan-Powers was ordered held on $500 bail; Lejuene was held on $200 bail.
