LYNN – A 16-year-old boy from Lynn was arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly lighting two students on fire inside the Fectau-Leary School on North Common Street, police said.
The boy was charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, possession of an infernal device, two counts of burning personal property and disrupting a school assembly.
According to a statement by Lynn police spokesman Lt. William Sharpe, the 16-year-old allegedly directed an aerosol can toward another student then sprayed it and ignited the spray with a lighter.
“The resultant flame hit an unintended 16-year-old student whose jacket ignited,” Sharpe said. “This student began to run and the flame on his jacket ignited another 16-year-old student’s sweatshirt.”
Police said the flames were quickly extinguished and the students were not injured.
