MARBLEHEAD-Michael Hanna will be the principal of the Marblehead Village School starting July 1.Superintendent of Schools Paul Dulac made the announcement at Thursday?s School Committee meeting. Hanna currently serves as Dulac?s coordinator of curriculum directors for kindergarten-Grade 12. Last year he was 16th on the list of wage-earners – the sixth highest-paid school employee – at $96,656. Dulac said Friday that Hanna was hired on a two-year contract at a salary of $97,000.Interim Principal Danielle Cherry will return to her duties as assistant principal.?Danielle continues to do an excellent job,” Dulac said. “We have a strong leadership team.”He said an interview team of 13 people, including Marblehead Veterans Middle School Principal Elizabeth Moore, eight Village School teachers, a PTO chairman and two parents, reviewed a list of 30 applicants and interviewed eight.Originally hired as a world language teacher at Marblehead High six years ago, Hanna was named curriculum director of social studies and world languages by Dulac two years ago and curriculum director coordinator last year.?We?re so excited about Michael?s appointment,” he said. “He?s a strong leader and he?s proven himself.”Dulac also announced Thursday that after another intensive search he has chosen Marblehead High graduate Jonathan Goldfield as school business manager. Goldfield served as interim business manager this year. A seven-member search team conducted the interviews. Goldfield earned $98,000 as interim business manager and started last July 1.Dulac said Friday he will post Hanna?s current position as a part-time job, combining the position of assistant Marblehead High principal in charge of instruction with curriculum director coordinator for Grades 7-12.The next job-holder will spend half their time working for Dulac and half working for Marblehead High Principal John Ziergiebel.
