LYNN – A man was arrested Wednesday for savagely beating a Lynn auto mechanic with a baseball bat because the mechanic allegedly did a bad job fixing his car, police said.Raymond Matos, 31, of 162 South Common St. #2, Lynn, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.Police say the attack happened Monday, March 23 at about midnight as the victim, Lous Marroquin, 20, of Lynn, walked alone on Summer Street.Marroquin reported the beating to police the morning after it occurred. He told police he was walking home from his girlfriend’s house when three people, including Matos, approached him from the opposite side of the street near Raffi’s Place. The victim said he was knocked to the ground and beaten for approximately five minutes, according to a police report. Marroquin said he initially did not recognize the suspects, but after the men stopped punching him he recognized Matos as a former customer at his auto repair shop. The three suspects left Marroquin on the ground and began to walk away when Matos allegedly walked back toward him holding an aluminum baseball bat, according to a police report.”This is for you! You did a terrible job on my car!” Matos allegedly yelled. The report says Matos gripped the bat with two hands and struck Marroquin across his back as he “rolled away in anguish.” Matos allegedly struck the victim in his head with the bat once more before the beating ended.Police took numerous photographs of the victim, who had his right eye swollen shut and had stitches and bandages on his head.Matos faced Judge Ellen Flatley Wednesday in Lynn District Court for arraignment and was ordered held on $500 bail, which he posted. He’s due back in court May 13 for a pre-trial hearing.
