LYNN – Lynn police sent a group of teenagers working undercover to try to buy alcohol Tuesday from 36 liquor stores around the city and got the best results they could hope for.Not one store sold alcohol to the underage volunteers.”This marks the first time all package stores followed all applicable laws relating to the sale of alcohol,” said Lt. William Sharpe, police spokesman.Police usually hope at least 85 percent of liquor stores comply. The total compliance comes after two years of police sending underage volunteers from the Lynn non-profit group Girls Inc. to attempt to purchase booze.”These results reflect a continuing improvement and commitment by store owners and their employees to curtail sales of alcohol to minors,” Sgt. Rick Carrow of the Lynn Police Special Investigation Unit said.Police Chief John Suslak said, “I am very pleased to see that continuing efforts ? raise public awareness of the dangers of underage drinking and have produced impressive results. I would also like to recognize and thank our license holders for their diligence in helping to make this a safer city.”Suslak, in a statement, also thanked the cooperation of Girls Inc. and Licensing Board Commission Chairman Richard Coppinger for their help.
