PEABODY – Two teenagers donning bandannas and wielding BB guns set off a police search in downtown Peabody Thursday morning.Yefry Cardona, 17, of 6 Harris St. and Luis Vazquez, 18, of 88 Aborn St. were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit felony armed robbery, attempted armed robbery while masked and disorderly conduct shortly before noontime after Peabody and state police embarked on an extensive search in the Walnut Street area.Police initially responded to a call reporting two suspicious teenagers wearing bandannas over their faces near Walnut Street at 10:58 a.m.As officers arrived on the scene the two teens dropped what police first believed to be a handgun and took off running onto Walnut Street, splitting in opposite directions as backup units arrived.Police first found Cardona hiding under a trailer on Caller Street and promptly set up a perimeter around the downtown area to try and contain Vazquez.Massachusetts state police K9 and air crews were dispatched to the area to aid in the search, locating the suspect a short time later hiding under a porch at 13 Harris St.Police say that the handgun turned out to be a BB shooting pistol and found other unidentified items of interest in the Harris Street area while searching for Vazquez. It is believed that the teens intended to carry out a robbery in the area. The two teenagers will be arraigned at Peabody District Court this morning.
