LYNN – After telling police he stabbed someone in Connery Rink last Friday, Yeison Arias led them to the Salem street where he discarded the knife.Prosecutors on Tuesday charged Arias, 18, 196 Hamilton, Apt. 1, with the murder of Carmello Sandoval, 18, of Kirtland Street. He is the second local teen charged with the murder of Sandoval, the father of a 10-month-old girl.Bernardo Urena pleaded innocent to murder on Monday. It was Urena, according to a police report, who was confronted with the details of Sandoval’s death last Sunday by Officer Robert Hogan and Det. Stephen Pohle. Armed with his broad knowledge of Lynn gang activity, Hogan asked Urena if he knew “Chicollo.” Under questioning, Urena linked that street name to Arias who “admitted to detectives he took a knife to the hockey rink” where he was involved in a fight.”He stated he stabbed somebody during the fight.”According to the report, Arias hid the knife in a bathroom and discarded it last Saturday along with a blood-stained shirt in two Salem locations.Arias was arrested at 7:45 p.m. Monday and pleaded innocent to the murder charge in District Court Tuesday morning.”Any actions he took that night were in self defense,” said Arias’ attorney, Joseph Bancore. Judge Michael Lauranzano assigned Arias $250,000 bail and set a May 12 pre-trial hearing date.Prosecutors said Sandoval went to the rink last Friday to assist another teen involved in a confrontation.A short time later police received a call from a female friend of the victim, telling them that she was transporting him to the hospital. She was kept on the phone by 911 operators and, at their direction, pulled over on Franklin Street in Lynn where she was met by an ambulance.Sandoval was transported to Salem Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.Judge Albert Conlon ordered Urena, who was arrested in 2007 for violating the city knife ordinance, held on $100,000 cash bail and set May 12 as his next court date.Sandoval’s mother, sister and other relatives looked on as Arias was arraigned. Arias family was also in the courtroom.”They express their deepest sympathies for the family of the victim,” Bancore said.
