LYNN – A Lynn Vocational and Technical Institute student is facing expulsion after faculty found a knife in his possession Monday afternoon.Police arrested the male juvenile student shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday at the school and charged him with possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon in a school and violating the city knife ordinance.LVTI Director James Ridley said Monday that classmates overheard the student in the boy’s bathroom talking about the knife and shared the information with faculty. After questioning the student, faculty members discovered that he was in possession of a pocket knife and called police. He was placed under arrest and faced arraignment in Lynn Juvenile Court Monday.”He was overheard in the boys bathroom talking to another student, it wasn’t like he was attacking anyone,” said Ridley. “It is good that students feel safe enough here to confide that information in the vice principal and get it taken care of. I am zero-tolerance. If you want to have something like that in here you are going to be out the door.”In addition to legal action taken by the courts, the student will also attend a hearing before Attendance and Discipline Specialist Richard Iarrobino at which point it will be determined if he will face indefinite suspension.Iarrobino said the student did not use the knife in any sort of threat or attack on another student and told police it was in his possession for protection purposes. No one was hurt and other students were not put in danger.”Someone overheard the student talking about having something with him and the vice principal followed up and investigated,” said Iarrobino. “There were no threats made, he didn’t pull it out, the staff just got wind of him having a knife and he was arrested.”
